Job Title                              Communication Support Worker (Freelance)

Report to                             Project Coordinator

Accountable to:             Outreach/Admin Support worker, Deaf Participant

Hours of Work:             241hrs  for 16 months

Pay                                 £25 per hour

This position is designed around flexible hours (approximately 241 hours over 16 months, with the possibility of additional hours as required)

Job Purpose

To support Deaf  people in the delivery of the’Heritage of Deaf People’s Changing Employment Experiences (2000-2010) caused by the DDA 2005, project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund will involve interpreting into British Sign Language, taking notes of the of the tutorials,

You also need to assist the Trainer with explaining the professional Project related language into plain English/BSL

Main Duties and responsibilities

•       Take into account the needs of Community Heritage Participants

•       Support participant to communicate with others in the training workshop through lip speaking, note taking and interpreting.

•       To interpret between spoken English and BSL

•       To use a range of ways to help them grasp what is required in during the training

•       To support participant  interviewing family members of Deaf people, Employers and other hearing people.

Essential Qualifications

   Signature Level 3 Certificate in Communication Support for Deaf Learners

OR

   Level 4 Communication Support Worker

OR

   Edexcel’s Professional Development Award in Communication Support Work with Deaf Learners

OR

   A degree in deaf studies
