PROJECT COORDINATOR
Job Title: Project Co-ordinator (10 months Fixed Term Contract)
Grade: £15-20 per hour (based on experience)
Report to: Project Manager
Accountable to: Volunteers, external trainers/coach, BSL communication Support Worker
Hours of Work: 6 hours per week
About the project :
The SoundSteps: Path to Wellness project is an initiative by Deafroots aimed at improving the physical and mental well-being of participants through activities such as chair Yoga and guided walking sessions. Participants will engage in regular physical activities, benefiting from increased flexibility, strength, cardiovascular health, and mental well-being. The project will foster a sense of community, achievement, and motivation among participants, encouraging them to explore their capabilities and interests
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the smooth execution of the SoundSteps: Path to Wellness project.
Coordinate activities and manage volunteers to ensure participant needs are met.
Collaborate with the Freelance Walking Coach and Chair Yoga Teacher to ensure the quality and accessibility of sessions.
Manage the project budget and handle financial planning, including the allocation for equipment such as walking shoes and raincoats.
Produce monitoring and evaluation reports to track project progress and outcomes.
Perform general administrative duties, including creating forms and Excel spreadsheets.
Ensure risk management and safeguarding protocols are followed.
Book tickets and arrange logistics for walking sessions and other activities.
Maintain effective communication with external trainers and coaches.
Utilise IT skills to manage project documentation and communication
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience in coordinating projects, particularly those involving volunteers and beneficiaries.
Strong ability to manage budgets and produce detailed reports.
Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Physically fit and capable of participating in long-distance walks.
Good knowledge of local and distant walking areas around London.
Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with trainers, coaches, and participants.
Ability to manage risk and safeguarding measures effectively.
Enthusiastic and motivated to support the well-being and development of project participants.
Experience
At least one years experience of working with London’s diverse communities
Experience of co ordinting or leading a project or group of people
Experience of recruiting community volunteers, facilitating appropriate training and motivating and supporting them to undertake complex project activities
Experience of working on own initiative with minimum support and supervision.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of and keen interest in the history of East London, particularly with regard to the Heritage of Deaf Culture and employment experiences in East London
Knowledge of resources of archival information
Ability to undertake high quality research on heritage matters and produce written interpretations and explanations
Able to deal effectively with people in a variety of levels and situations, including in the statutory, private and voluntary sectors
Communication and IT Skills
Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills, including public speaking abilities.
Have understanding of British sign Language and Deaf Awareness
Ability to write and present reports.
